OUR STORY

As all good stories do, ours begins with a great horse. Moxie and I had been a team since I was 13 years old. A beautiful 15.2hh Appaloosa gelding. We saw each other through many extremes in life. Needless to say, he was my heart horse. In 2013 Moxie was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive tumor in his lower jaw. In the summer of 2014 I made the decision to try a surgery, which would require the front portion of his lower jaw to be removed. The surgery was rare because most horses could not learn to eat normally after, but he was my war horse and I knew he could make it through... and he did. They were successful in removing the tumor and surrounding tissue, but due to the many medications and the stress of being somewhere alone and completely unfamiliar, Moxie rapidly lost a lot of weight. Even when he got home, he wouldn't eat soaked hay cubes, and we were running out of options. His jaw was too weak to eat normal hay and turned his nose up to many other feeds. That is when we found Buckeye® Nutrition. Senior Pelleted  saved his life. Not only did it act as a hay replacement but with the addition of Equine Choice probiotics, it quickly helped him through the bouts of colic from the medications and got him safely back to a healthy weight. He gained his strength back with the support of these products and learned to eat hay and graze again!  It was then that I realized the importance of nutrition backed by science, so I went on a mission to learn more about equine digestion and health. And here we are!
